Nikolas
Lestaeghe
Nikolas – born 6 December (!) 1988 – went to school in the polders, did karate and built tree houses. He cycled around his village, visited Alice – the neighbour – and got ‘the tastiest radishes in the world’ from her. Later he had a moped and a cat. Today he lives in Brussels. Nikolas doesn’t like the smell of peanut butter, but his sweetheart does (and he does like his sweetheart).
Nikolas Lestaeghe (1988) may have trained as a theatre maker (RITCS), but he is just as eager to build his own amusement park, tree houses or cardboard world. His own personal stories are always the starting point, and he uses every possible form to give his story strength. He often invites communities, neighbourhoods and passers-by to step into his world and workshop. His work sits at the crossroads of installation art, theatre and life itself. He co-founded K.A.K. (Koekelberg Alliance of Tinkerers) and went completely wild in that playground, preferably working on unfeasible, dangerous or megalomaniac ideas. His Attraction Park Under Construction could be visited from Portugal to Ostend, but he keeps working on new attractions and interventions with local communities. He built a participatory fireworks show in the Kuregem neighbourhood of Anderlecht. In the summer of 2025 he permanently damaged the floors of Antigone in Kortrijk to bolt down tracks for Het Spookhuis (The Haunted House), an immersive nightmare with 50 performers. On squares across Europe you can find his Bonkers Kidsrave, an invitation to children to discover the world of raves.
He has also made performances at or with 4hoog, Theater Malpertuis, Miet Warlop, Transquinquennal, Plan B, CREW, Thomas Janssens, Kopergietery, Theater Artemis, De Maan… With Amai Speciaal Chapeau, made with De Maan, he was selected for Het TheaterFestival 2026.
